In this 48-hour itinerary, explore the charm of Luxembourg City, enjoy local cuisine, stroll through the Grund district, and visit modern museums. Venture out to the Moselle wine region, and immerse yourself in Luxembourg's blend of history, culture, and natural beauty - all in just two days!

Day 1: Luxembourg City – History, Culture, and Cuisine

Start your adventure in Luxembourg City, the country's vibrant capital. Begin with a stroll through the historic Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can admire the Grand Ducal Palace and the picturesque Place d'Armes.

Visit the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral and then descend to the Grund district, known for its charming riverside views and lively atmosphere. Don't miss the Bock Casemates, a fascinating network of underground tunnels that once formed part of the city's fortifications—offering both history and panoramic city views. For lunch, enjoy traditional Luxembourgish cuisine at a local bistro or gourmet restaurant in the city center

In the afternoon, explore the city's museums, such as the Musée national d'histoire et d'art or the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art, before ending your day with a sunset walk along the Chemin de la Corniche, often called “Europe's most beautiful balcony”

Day 2: Vianden Castle and the Ardennes

On your second day, rent a car and head north to the picturesque town of Vianden, about 45 minutes from the capital. Vianden Castle, perched high above the town, is one of Luxembourg's most iconic landmarks and offers a self-guided tour through centuries of history. Enjoy a coffee at the castle's café or in the town below, then wander Vianden's cobbled streets, soaking in its medieval charm and scenic river views. If time allows, take the Vianden Chairlift for sweeping vistas of the castle and the surrounding Ardennes landscape.

Day 2 Midday: Mullerthal – “Little Switzerland”

After exploring Vianden, drive south to the Mullerthal region, known as “Luxembourg's Little Switzerland” for its dramatic rock formations, dense forests, and scenic hiking trails.

Even a short walk here will immerse you in the area's natural beauty—consider a stop at the Mellerdall UNESCO Global Geopark to see ancient caves and unique geological features. If you have extra time, visit Echternach, Luxembourg's oldest town, famous for its abbey and medieval squares

Day 2 Afternoon: Moselle Valley – Wine and River Views

This region is perfect for a relaxing afternoon, whether you're sampling wines or simply enjoying the views. Continue your road trip southeast to the Moselle Valley, Luxembourg's renowned wine region along the border with Germany

Stop at Koll & Cie local winery or Weingut Dr. Loosen to try out Luxembourg's crisp white wines and sparkling crémants.

If you prefer, take a short river cruise to enjoy the scenic vineyards, charming villages, and tranquil river landscapes.
